Tell us about your work experience in HR.

I started out at a headhunting agency with no experience at all in recruiting. I started with legal, then moved on to media recruiting. I guess because I didn’t know any different, it didn’t seem odd to me to work aggressively to recruit. We didn’t take out ads, because typically in high-level positions, they are replacing someone that’s presently in the role. Most of those positions are confidential searches.

What are the unique talents you bring to the field?

I am completely and totally comfortable speaking with people; not intimidated by sensitive convos or awkward subjects. Have no problems picking up the phone and networking for advice or candidates. Most people expect headhunters to be aggressive, but that’s not me at all. I prefer to establish a nice rapport and work from there.

Share your biggest success story in HR so far.

I consider myself lucky that I still genuinely enjoy my job. I love people and I enjoy helping them to have a better work environment. In a field where burnout happens all of the time, I am thankful I still love going to work everyday.

What is the best advice you’ve received during your career path, and from whom?

To do this job, you really need to care about people. If you don’t, it’ll show and people won’t trust you. My first HR boss told me that. He was right.

What’s your favorite HR tech tool?

LinkedIn. Great for networking.

As an HR professional, how do you handle recruiting to achieve the best results?

I prefer to pick up the phone and network to find candidates. It’s such a challenge. For really specialized positions, it’s the most efficient and rewarding way.

What do you hope to achieve in 2020?

I am hoping to improve the culture at my present company in more creative ways. It’s a challenge that I look forward to everyday. I would also like to explore Risk; it’s not something I’ve had a lot of experience with, so I’m hoping to get to touch that area soon.
